Ivy Station Development Unveils Hotel Component
The property will be located midway between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Calif.
Lowe and AECOM-Canyon Partners, the developers behind the 500,000-square-foot mixed-use development Ivy Station currently underway in Culver City, Calif., have shared details about The Shay, a new 149-key boutique hotel rising at the site. Upon completion, slated for mid-2020, the six-story hotel property will be operated by Hyatt under the premium Destination Hotels brand.
The property will be located midway between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Calif., at the intersection of National and Washington Boulevards. The building adds to the 5.2-acre Ivy Station’s mix of projects, which include the 240,000-square-foot office building leased to WarnerMedia that will house the West Coast offices of HBO, Cinemax, HBO Max and its WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks, TNT, tbs and truTV. In addition to WarnerMedia, nearby studio space has been occupied by Apple and Amazon, joining Sony Pictures Studios.
The Shay will feature loft-style guest rooms, multiple workspaces, a lobby with a bar, an indoor fire pit, a game room and The Box—an interactive work and leisure space. In addition, the property will feature some 8,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 3,550-square-foot ballroom and 5,000 square feet of outdoor courtyard space for meetings and social events.
KFA Architecture handled the design of the property while Studio Collective led the interiors. The name of the property was inspired by its proximity to the Expo Line, Los Angeles’ light rail, and Ephraim Shay, an inventor and entrepreneur who created the most widely used geared steam locomotive, also called The Shay.
