Hangzhou, China—August is proving a fruitful month for Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., which just announced its third life sciences contract within the last three weeks. The company was recently tapped by Pfizer Inc. to provide design and other services for the company’s $350 million Global Biotechnology Center in China’s Hangzhou Economic Development Area.

Pfizer’s Global Biotechnology Center will be a cutting-edge facility featuring a state-of-the-art laboratory, utility buildings, a warehouse and administration offices. The property—the future home of Pfizer’s Biologics Quality, Technical Service, Logistics and Engineering divisions—will serve a host of needs including R&D, commercial manufacturing and clinical supply.

Jacobs will have its hands full. Not only will the company spearhead the overall site design, it will also provide engineering services, as well as procurement and construction support.

Jacobs is the largest professional services provider to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and its new contracts this month alone further solidify its position. In early August, the company announced it had been selected to provide engineering services and procurement for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals’ new 200,000-square-foot manufacturing center in Norton, Mass. And just a week later, Jacob won a contract for the expansion of the Novartis Pharma S.A.S. Biotechnology Center in Huningue, France.

Pfizer’s new project is on track to reach completion in 2018.
