Two Greater Washington companies have teamed up to build a huge residential and retail development in the heart of Tysons.
Kettler and The Meridian Group are the two companies behind the massive project, called The Boro. The 3.7 million-square-foot development will bring a mix of offices, apartments, condos, stores, restaurants and entertainment, all within walking distance of the new Greensboro Metro Station.
Phase I of The Boro is scheduled to start in the summer of 2016. It calls for the construction of 1.4 million square feet of mixed-use space, including 626 apartments, 124 condominiums, 223,000 square feet of retail, 400,000 square feet of office space and a one-acre public park.
The project will feature both high-rise and mid-rise buildings for architectural diversity. It is designed by Shalom Baranes Associates. The joint venture did not reveal the cost of the development or when it expects to finish the project.
Once complete, the entire Boro project will consist of about 1.8 million square feet of residential space, 1.3 million square feet of offices, 316,000 square feet of retail space and 250,000 square feet of hotel space. It will feature numerous amenities, such as a 70,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market and a 15-screen Shoplace ICON cinema from Chicago-based Kerasotes Showplace Theatres. Both the store and the cinema are scheduled to open in 2018. The Whole Foods store will be the biggest in the region.
