Los Angeles—DTLA’s STAPLES Center recently completed a series of upgrades that have been carried out at the facility over the past four months. Totaling $5 million in investment, the operation included the upgrading of the private suites and premium concession stand areas. This follows a $7 million investment in 2014-2015 to the facility’s lighting system that switched the arena to energy efficient LED lighting, a new seating system and an extended TEAM LA Store.

Developer and operator AEG worked with MEIS Architects to redesign the 170 Private Suites and 16 Event Suites. New carpeting, cabinet finishes and wood grain floor tile, as well as new upgraded amenities were all added during the process. The new color palette consists of black, gray, white and stainless to reflect a more modern aesthetic. The Event Suites now feature themes that are inspired by some of the most memorable neighborhoods of L.A. including Venice, Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

All the items of furniture, including coffee tables, bar stools, lounge chairs and couches, that were sourced from the old suites were provided to Habitat for Humanity and the Union Rescue Mission.

Since its opening in 1999, the STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles has sounded the bell for change in the area. Further helped by the development of L.A. Live and the Microsoft Theater, the area has re-engineered the way in which DTLA has been perceived by both investors and consumers during the past decade. The arena is home to a number of major professional sports franchises including the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings and the Los Angeles Sparks.
