Lightstone’s 349-key Moxy Chelsea Hotel, the company’s second Moxy property developed in New York City, has topped out. In partnership with Marriott, Lightstone broke ground on the development in the summer of 2016, with delivery expected for this fall. Designers Yabu Pushelberg and Rockwell Group are also part of the project.
Located at 105 W. 28th St., the 37-story hotel is situated within walking distance of Penn Station, Chelsea Park, The High Line and the burgeoning Hudson Yards area, as well as the 28th Street metro station for 1 and 2 trains. The property is surrounded by retail options and a handful of other hotels in the immediate area, including flags such as Hyatt House, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Kimpton, Cambria and DoubleTree.
“Home to some of the city’s most prominent restaurants and landmarks, Chelsea is the perfect neighborhood for the newest Moxy, with its ideal location for both business and leisure travelers alike,” said Mitchell Hochberg, president of Lightstone, in prepared remarks.
The Chelsea project follows the partnership’s first Manhattan endeavor, the 612-key Moxy Times Square, which opened in September 2017 and landed a $260 million refinancing deal at the end of last year. The Times Square property is located within a 15-minute walk of Lightstone’s upcoming Chelsea Moxy. The joint venture has two additional New York City hotels in the pipeline and Lightstone is developing a total of seven Moxy properties, with locations including Miami’s South Beach, downtown Los Angeles and West Hollywood.
