Construction work at The Wheeling Town Center, a 100,000-square-foot retail property started last week in Wheeling, Ill., a strong industrial submarket in the Chicago metro area. The Lynmark Group owns the property, while KeyBank Real Estate Capital is the project’s construction lender and NKF will lead the leasing efforts.

The shopping center is scheduled to open in early 2019. In addition to the anchors—CMX Cinemas, City Work Eatery and Pour House and Starbucks—several other local businesses such as Mia’s Cantina and 312 Nails & Spa will join in. More new tenants are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The commercial groundbreaking and new additions demonstrate the momentum that is continuing to build as this long-awaited community space takes shape,” said Director Luke Semeta of NKF in a prepared statement.

The Lynmark Group also unveiled its plans to build a five-story residential property just steps from the pedestrian plaza. ONE Wheeling Town Center is expected to encompass 300 luxury units and to span 16 acres. Residents will have access to the Wheeling Metra train station, Village Hall and several Park District facilities located within walking distance.
