Medistar Corporation is developing a 550,000-square-foot Class A medical tower in Houston, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world with 50 million square feet of buildings on 1,345 acres, supporting 10 million patient encounters annually.
Located at 6700 Main St., the new medical tower will boast an expanded floor plate that can support the requirements of a major medical destination, oversized parking garage and ground-level retail. It will be connected by sky bridges to Medistar’s previously announced 22-story InterContinental hotel and 35-story LATITUDE Med Center luxury apartment tower.
A Larger Development Plan
The 21-story hotel will feature a signature InterContinental Club Lounge, 37 suites, restaurant and bar, outdoor pool and fitness center. The property will also include 11,800 square feet of meeting space, including seven meeting and board rooms and a 7,800-square-foot grand ballroom. Combined, the hotel and apartment community will offer 1.2 million square feet of upscale hospitality and residential solutions for those working and visiting the Texas Medical Center.
Located just one block from the MetroRail transit station, the new medical tower will offer convenience and accessibility, plus walkability to the Texas Medical Center. Medistar has designed the project to the high quality of standards of today’s most modern hospitals. That means the inclusion of robust, secure technologies that interact with QR code wearable cards to enhance patient safety, security, clinical accuracy and operational efficiency.
The three-building complex will serve patients, guests and their families, and also meet the diverse, growing and continually evolving needs of the global health science industry, including universities, healthcare systems, pharmaceutical companies, genomics companies, medical equipment manufacturers, medical device companies, physicians, medical students and more from both the U.S. and abroad.
Talks are already underway between Medistar and major healthcare companies about the new medical tower to create or expand their presence in the Texas Medical Center.
