New York City’s iconic Millennium UN Plaza Hotel located next to United Nations headquarters in midtown Manhattan will undergo a complex interior renovation project by Grace Leo, CEO and Founder of G.L.A. Hotels—a management and consultancy firm using design as a tool for repositioning hotels.
Designed by visionary architect Kevin Roche, the hotel opened in 1976 as the top choice for diplomats and heads of state visiting the United Nations. With its stunning skyline views of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, East River and five bridges—as well upscale amenities that include a swimming pool on the 27th floor and the only indoor tennis court in a hotel in New York City – the Millennium UN Plaza is now a prime location for business travelers, dignitaries and tourists from around the world.
Phase I of the project is already underway with a $30 million renovation investment at the West Tower. Scheduled to reopen for guests in September 2012, the new West Tower will feature 154 luxury rooms/suites and a sophisticated Skyline Club on the 30th floor designed by famed French interior designer Didier Gomez, where guests will enjoy exclusive check-in and personalized concierge services, top cuisine and beverages, and free Wi-Fi access. Renovation of the hotel’s lobby, where a new bar will be added, and public areas is also included in Phase I of the project.
Scheduled for 2013, Phase II of the renovation at the Millennium UN Plaza will result in a new restaurant and bar. The third phase will focus on major renovation of the hotel’s East Tower.
