If you haven’t heard, Houston is booming. The pipeline for both commercial and residential development is running full, and CPE got to tour a few sites while we were in town for NAREE’s 48th Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference this June.

The first stop was a LEED Platinum custom home under construction in The Heights. The owners were looking for new digs that were net-zero water and featured a big solar presence. Landscaping is also all organic and even edible in certain instances.

Next up was a $4.8 million spec house built by Al Ross Luxury Homes in the prestigious River Oaks neighborhood. While the house was impressive in its own right, perhaps most interesting was its three-year no questions warranty, an emerging trend in the luxury home market.

The editors next made their way downtown. After a short bus tour of landmarks and broken ground, we arrived at The JW Marriott Houston. The 328 suites and rooms are situated in the historic Samuel F. Carter Building, a 102-year-old, 23-story tower.
