New England Ski Resort Completes $90M Alpine Development

Stowe, Vt.—Spruce Peak at Stowe has completed its $90 million Village Center development, part of an overall $500 million project that began 13 years ago with Stowe Mountain Lodge, the Mountain Cabins and a 21,000 square-foot spa, located in Stowe, Vt.

“This is really the first luxurious four-season alpine resort development in the Northeast,” Sam Gaines, Stowe Mountain Resort vice president & director of real estate development, told Commercial Property Executive. “We are seeing that affluent millennial parents were looking for a second-home community that offers culture as well as recreation for their children. Additionally, the baby boomers are exploring real estate opportunities that appeal to their passions like golf and skiing yet also provide entertainment for their children and grandchildren.”

The Alpine Clubhouse and Club Residences features 19 luxury resort club homes, a private dining facility and a ski club for Spruce Peak residents and local members. For the interior of the clubhouse, Brayton Hughes Design Studio paid homage to the early ski lodge as well as New England architectural traditions, incorporating regional touches such as Douglas fir for the central stairways, granite and soapstone, and plaid carpets and fabrics contrasted with cowhides to reference Vermont’s agrarian traditions.

At the base of the most iconic mountain resort in the east, the new Spruce Peak Village Center is perhaps most unique in that family programming is at the heart of it all. Spruce Peak at Stowe offers a luxurious alpine village with a new 20,000-square-foot Alpine clubhouse with club residences, a 30,000-square-foot Adventure Center and boutique shops that are centered around a 10,000-square-foot ice skating rink.

According to Gaines, the Adventure Center contains a three-story climbing tower, movie theater, pizzeria and more, which affords adults the opportunity to go to the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center or sample some of the finest alpine cuisine at Solstice and the private Alpine Clubhouse.

“After a long day on the ski slopes, families come together around the new ice rink, or around one of the many fireplaces around the village,” he said. “For the privileged few that call Spruce Peak home, their residences are steps away from all of the village activities as well as the ski slopes.”

It is also the only facility of its kind to offer underground slope-side parking

This fall, Spruce Peak will break ground on 18 four-bedroom Village Townhomes, 2,100-square-foot triplex units with direct access to the slopes, an 18-hole golf course, and Village Center.
