Long-time local full-service financial institution Mid Penn Bancorp aims to expand and consolidate its business in the Harrisburg area by erecting a new building to serve as a new and complete Halifax office. Although the project is at an early stage, the bank already acquired land on Peters Mountain Road/Route 255. The papers have been filed at the Township Board’s office and they are pending regulatory approval. A planned opening date has not yet been released.

According to Mid Penn officials, the bank had a previous Dauphin County office that closed back in 2009. “We are excited to announce our intention to return to the Halifax community with the establishment of a full service retail location that will serve all members of this great community,” Rory Ritrievi, Mid Penn Bank president & CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Mid Penn Bank has been headquartered in and has served Upper Dauphin County for almost 150 years. Having a full-service retail location in Halifax, one of the community jewels of Upper Dauphin County, just makes sense,” he further added.

The institution is headquartered in Millersburg and is the biggest community bank in the Dauphin County area, with 21 branches serving Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Luzerne, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties. Mid Penn Bank is also looking forward to opening new offices in New Holland, Lancaster County and Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County. They are set to open on May 1 and June 1, respectively. A merger with The Scottdale Bank & Trust Co. is set to take place later this year.
