The affordable housing problem extends far beyond U.S. borders, and Indianapolis-based 3D Global Solutions has just formed a new partnership in an effort to address the problem. The Indianapolis-based consulting firm entered into a Joint Development Agreement with Toronto’s Innovative Composites International Inc. for the creation of affordable housing and temporary shelters around the world.
3DGS, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business with a predominantly military and federal government clientele, plans to focus a significant portion of the partnership’s activities on affordable housing projects in communities surrounding U.S. military installations, as well as international locations where relief efforts are currently taking place.
ICI will design the energy efficient housing units and create a development process for erecting the projects. The high-tech engineering and manufacturing firm will create housing kits consisting of the necessary materials–including its proprietary structural composite panels–that can be shipped from the U.S. to the designated areas and assembled by unskilled workers within a one- to two-day period.
“ICI’s revolutionary, patent protected design has the potential to significantly change the dynamics of the worldwide affordable housing and temporary shelter market,” Mike Dodd, CEO of 3DGS, noted in a prepared statement. “By manufacturing the units in the U.S. and shipping them to the final destination, we can make sure that every cent of funding, be it military or government aid, is used efficiently and with direct benefit to the particular project.”
3DGS and ICI’s first affordable housing project could get underway in the near future. While specific details have yet to be released, an unidentified client is presently reviewing a recently submitted proposal by the team.
