New UPMC Hospital Opens Doors in Central Pennsylvania

UPMC Pinnacle has opened the doors to the new UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, Pa., which replaces the existing hospital in the city’s downtown. The 130-bed property is part of a larger campus that will also include a 140,000-square-foot ambulatory care center by the end of September. The architectural and interior designs of both buildings bear the signature of Stantec, which has Megan Holmes as principal-in-charge and managing leader of the architecture and design group.

The hospital is located at 1701 Innovation Drive and has been serving the community since 1945. The new facility will offer emergency medical care, cardiology and vascular services, maternity services, chronic disease management, surgical services as well as treatment for patients in need of long-term care.

Situated on more than 100 acres, the building includes three heart catheterization labs, four operating rooms, an emergency department with 28 treatment rooms, a critical care unit with 14 beds, as well as multiple nursing stations. The design is inspired from the region’s local quarries featuring precast panels on the building’s exterior with limestone and metal accents.
