OU Regents Approve $370 Million Redevelopment of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents recently approved a proposal from OU Athletics to proceed with a $370 million revamping of the Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The goal of the project is not to expand the seating capacity but to enhance the experience for fans and student-athletes. The master plan, which is subject to continuing review and approval by the OU Board of Regents, outlines numerous amenities and upgrades that will improve the fan environment on all seating levels.

Plans call for an expansion of the stadium’s south end zone which will feature a 46,000-square-foot fan plaza and a covered upper concourse. The Barry Switzer Center will also receive a makeover that will add nearly 50,000 square feet of new space for student-athletes. An upgrade to weight room facilities will result in a 30,852-square-foot year-round high-performance training, conditioning and speed enhancement center. To improve fan movement, 16 moving stairways and 18 new elevators will be installed.

Other additions will include 60,000 square feet of academic space; 11 football-position meeting rooms; state-of-the-art medical training, equipment and football operations facilities; new coaching offices and meeting space; and an 8,750-square-foot video board for SoonerVision to display replays and in-game multimedia entertainment.
