Cousins Properties Inc. has hired Pickard Chilton to design the new headquarters of Norfolk Southern Corp. The transportation company is relocating from Norfolk, Va., to a 1-million-square-foot office development in Atlanta’s Technology Square district. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 26th and the completion date is estimated in the third quarter of 2021. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the construction cost is expected to amount to roughly $550 million.

The new corporate headquarters will bring together employees from the company’s Norfolk, Virginia and Midtown Atlanta locations, as well as several hundred dispatcher, administrative and supervisory personnel from its nine divisions across the eastern U.S. The move is expected to bring 850 jobs to the region.

Situated on a 3.4-acre site at 650 W. Peachtree St. N.E., between Ponce de Leon Avenue and Third Street, Norfolk Southern’s main office will consist of two towers connected by a five-story campus-style hub, which will feature multiple roof terraces and 2000 parking spaces. Amenities will include a dining facility, rooftop garden and private greenspace, a fitness center, conference and training facilities, on-site child-care, as well as individual and shared workspaces.
