New York—sbe Hotel Group has officially opened its first New York hotel in Manhattan’s NoMad district. Since its phase one transformation in April 2016 to The Redbury New York, the hotel has undergone extensive design renovations.
The hotel originally opened in 1903 as Martha Washington Hotel and was the first one in New York to provide housing for professional women. The resort continued to cater exclusively to women up until 1998. Until the recent renovation, the hotel was known as Hotel Thirty Thirty (2003), Hotel Lola (2011) and King & Grove New York (2012). In June 2012, it was designated a historical landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission for its architectural and historical significance.
CIM Group purchased the hotel in November 2015 from Chelsea Hotels, and chose sbe to manage and convert the 265-room hotel into the largest Redbury Hotel. The property last changed hands in 2012, when Chelsea Hotels (then King & Grove Hotels) purchased the asset from Rockpoint Group LLC for $116 million.
Located on 29th Street, between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South, the hotel is close to New York’s legendary center of music recording and publishing, known as Tin Pan Alley, where the American music industry thrived during the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Redbury New York is just minutes away from the city’s shopping centers, restaurants, nightclubs and attractions such as the Empire State Building, Madison Square Park or the Theatre District. Guests benefit from 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, the Ciel Spa bath, Wi-Fi, a fitness center and in-room dining from on-site restaurant Marta. Developed by its Creative Director Matthew Rolston, the hotel’s design is inspired by the 1960’s era of pop music.
The Redbury brand owns two other properties in Hollywood, Calif. and South Beach, Fla.
