Skanska-Hunt, a joint venture between Skanska and AECOM Hunt, has been tapped by OVG-Seattle and NHL Seattle as the general contractor for the redevelopment of the Seattle Center Arena. The team will be working with developer representative and project manager CAA ICON, architect Populous and Labor Partners. Construction of the project is scheduled to start in the fall of 2018.

The newly redeveloped Seattle Center Arena will feature an interior of up to 750,000 square feet, doubling its current size. Preserving the current historic and iconic roofline, the property will also meet LEED standards. The arena is the largest private investment in the Pacific Northwest sports and entertainment history and the project team will make it the ultimate urban arena. The facility will hold more then 140 events per year, with a goal of becoming one of the top 10 music venues in the country.

“The redevelopment is focused on creating a home for a variety of events that will appeal to an entire cross section of the Seattle community. It is designed specifically for each and everyone,” said Chris Carver, principal in charge at Populous, in a prepared statement. “For fans, this means providing a myriad of seating options and a redesigned seating bowl with strong sightlines for hockey, basketball, concerts and more to truly become a place where people love to be together.”

In February, a partnership between AECOM and luis vidal + architects was chosen to handle the remodeling of Boston Logan International Airport’s Terminal E. The team won the design competition due to their collaborative proposal, which also satisfied Massachusetts Port Authority’s functional requirements.
