Steel Manufacturer to Invest $250M in MO Mill
Nucor Corp. intends to build a rebar micro mill in Sedalia, Mo. The investment is expected to generate 255 jobs once the facility is operational.

Nucor Corp. plans to build a rebar micro mill in Sedalia, Mo, about 90 miles east of Kansas City, Mo. The project represents a $250 million investment and is expected to be operational in 2019, pending the receipt of final approvals and award of state and local incentives.
In addition to shortening distances for rebar supply to the upper Midwest and Plains markets, the Sedalia location will take advantage of scrap supply from Nucor’s other operations in the area. Scrap supply will be provided by the company’s scrap business, The David J. Joseph Co. “Strategically positioning this micro mill in the Kansas City area will give us a sustained cost advantage over other domestic steel producers supplying rebar from outside the region,” said Nucor Chairman, CEO & President John Ferriola, in a prepared statement.
The rebar micro mill is expected to create 255 full-time jobs paying an average annual salary of approximately $65,000. Moreover, the project will create 450 temporary construction jobs.
Recently, the Kansas City area has attracted other manufacturers as well. Kubota Tractor Corp. will build its North American distribution hub on 203 acres in Edgerton, Kan.
