SunPower’s 1.7 MW Project Powers Bose’s Global HQ

Bose Corp.’s headquarters in Framingham, Mass., is now powered by a 1.7-megawatt solar installation from SunPower. The sustainable energy company designed, constructed, financed and will operate and maintain the fixed-tilt, ground-mount system along the southern hillside of “The Mountain.”

The array consists of nearly 4,000 high-quality SunPower solar panels, which are expected to generate 2.4 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, feeding the grid with enough electricity to supply a substantial portion of Bose’s campus through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

“Corporate renewable energy programs are growing, especially in Massachusetts where Bose is headquartered,” said Nam Nguyen, SunPower executive vice president, commercial solar, in prepared remarks.

New chapter in American Solar Manufacturing

SunPower is among the largest solar energy providers in the world with more than 9.2 gigawatts installed, according to a report issued by Wood Mackenzie and is the number one commercial solar provider in the U.S.

Earlier in October, the company completed the acquisition of certain assets of SolarWorld Americas, including its Hillsboro, Ore., facilities where it employs more than 200 workers. SunPower has already begun to inject capital into the factory as it executes plans to implement its O-Series solar panel manufacturing technology.

“This acquisition is an important step in helping to reshape solar manufacturing in America,” said Tom Werner, SunPower CEO & chairman of the board. “With a dedicated and experienced Hillsboro workforce and our advanced P-Series solar panel manufacturing technology, invented and perfected in Silicon Valley, we’ll be able to sell high-performance American-assembled panels to serve our strong U.S. market demand.”
