Thor Equities has acquired a 114-key boutique hotel located in SoHo—James New York-SoHo—in a deal brokered by JLL. The company’s hospitality division plans to complete substantial renovations at the property.

Located at 27 Grand St., on the corner of Thompson Street, the 18-story hotel features three food and beverage spaces—The Jimmy, David Burke Kitchen and Garden at David Bourke—as well as meeting and event areas totaling 1,500 square feet. Amenities include an outdoor rooftop swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness center, free Wi-Fi and a complimentary mezzanine office. The hotel also features the works of local and international artists.

Expanding hotel holdings

The building is in close proximity to the Children’s Museum of the Arts, Film Forum and SoHo Playhouse, as well as to several corporate offices, restaurants and retail stores. The James New York-SoHo is the fifth hotel in Thor’s portfolio. The other four properties are the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Thompson Playa Del Carmen, Montage Los Cabos and The Ritz-Carlton Mexico City, the last two opening next year.

Jeffrey Davis, JLL’s international director of the hotels and hospitality group, brokered the deal on behalf of the buyer. Davis also recently worked on closing the sale of the Royalton Hotel, an iconic New York City property.
