Sacramento Inn & Suites finally falls following problematic few years.

After being shuttered by local authorities earlier in 2015, the 376-room hotel on Arden Way has been torn down. The six-building property is now an empty lot, creating roughly 19 acres of vacant land near the Arden Fair Mall.

Ahead of the actual demolition, crews carried out toxic material removals from the property’s six buildings. The resulting land parcel will most likely become a new housing development handled by Fulcrum Property, a local development company currently working with land owner The Watkins Co.

The property at 1401 Arden Way had become an issue due to drug and prostitution problems spiraling out of control, which led to the hotel being closed by the Sacramento City Attorney’s office. ABC10.com reported that 179 police calls had originated from the address between 2012 and 2014, one of Sacramento’s most active locations. Hotel owner Kumar Sharma failed to remedy the large number of issues and eventually had to vacate the premises, which eventually led to the hotel’s demolition.

Before demolition, the property was the fourth largest hospitality facility in the region, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.
