Hilton is expanding its Tru by Hilton portfolio outside the U.S., with plans to add three properties in Canada. Tru by Hilton Edmonton-Windermere, a 92-key asset located in Alberta, will be the first to open in 2018. Hilton opened its first Tru by Hilton property back in May, an 86-key hotel at Oklahoma City Airport, marking the Hilton’s 5,000th development.

The other two projects scheduled to open in 2019 are:

  • Tru by Hilton Markham, located in Ontario, will be a 120-key dual-brand project,  in collaboration with Home2 Suites. Hanisha Inc. & Lodson Investments Corp. are developing the property.
  • Tru by Hilton Kingston, a 95-key hotel located also in Ontario, will be developed by Canada Ltd.

Tech-savvy amenities

Common-area amenities will include an enlarged lobby with more than 2,800 square feet of public space for work, playing games, eating or lounging. National and local-brand gourmet snacks and drinks will be available in the “Eat & Drink” market located in the heart of the lobby. The hotel will also have a fitness center with TRX bands, free weights, cardio and flexibility gear. Other amenities include mobile check-in, Digital Key, free Wi-Fi, remote printing, social media wall, super-charging stations and accessibility to outlets.

“The Canadian market offers significant opportunity for the Tru by Hilton brand,” Alexandra Jaritz, global head, Tru by Hilton, said in a statement. “Because the Tru by Hilton concept is so versatile and scalable, it’s the perfect solution to fill current voids in primary, secondary and tertiary markets across Canada.”
