The company is currently in the process of building the new U-Haul Moving & Storage of Westhaven on a vacant lot at 4057 S. Memorial Drive. The project is located across the street from Pitt Community College.

The 10-acre property, which U-Haul acquired one year ago, is split into two parcels by an access road. The front area will include a U-Haul showroom, a three-story, climate-controlled self-storage facility and a 4,000-square-foot U-Box warehouse. Meanwhile, the back of the property will feature 100 covered storage spaces for RVs, boats and vehicles.

Upon completion, U-Haul Moving & Storage of Westhaven will offer 959 self-storage units encompassing 70,000 square feet. The warehouse will accommodate 200 U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers. Plans also call for truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, moving supplies and boxes. Propane service is expected to be available after the opening.

According to Paul Smedberg, president of U-Haul Co. of Raleigh, the company intends to hire locally to promote job growth within the community. Once fully operational, the location is expected to employ at least 12 new U-Haul team members.

“There are no U-Haul-owned, full-service locations in Greenville or the surrounding areas,” Smedberg said in prepared remarks. “This will be a new thing for these communities. Greenville is the home to East Carolina University, which enrolls about 27,000 students. Plus, we have Vidant Medical Center, which serves a large area and employs a lot of people. This is a growing market and our presence is long overdue.”

While the upcoming facility is under construction, movers in and around Greenville can have their summer moving needs met by the 16 U-Haul neighborhood dealers within city limits or any number of dealers in surrounding communities.

“U-Haul Moving & Storage of Westhaven will be very close to Winterville, which is an up and coming area,” Smedberg added. “We are looking forward to serving both markets–Greenville and Winterville–and finally having a full-service store to offer the moving and storage products this community needs and deserves.”

ecent U-Haul expansions include a redevelopment project in Harrison Township, Ohio and a new location in Middletown, N.Y.
