U-Haul has acquired a 103,977-square-foot retail building in Ammon, Idaho. The company plans to transform a former Kmart store into a 900-unit self-storage facility. The asset is slated to open by early 2019. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Ammon is currently operating out of a temporary showroom and offers truck and trailer sharing, towing equipment and moving supplies.
Located on 8.2 acres at 3101 E. 17th St., the property is approximately 4.5 miles from Idaho Falls. The new storage facility will offer climate-controlled units, featuring high-tech security at an affordable price. Additionally, the asset will include propane, professional hitch installation and U-Box portable moving and storage containers.
“We are eager to put our adaptive reuse program to work in the Ammon community,” said President Casey Jones of U-Haul, Idaho, in prepared remarks. “Many large box stores close and stay dark for years. Our reuse of this building will be great for U-Haul, the environment and our neighbors.”
In June, U-Haul also acquired a Kmart store in Alton, Ill. The property will be repurposed as a 700-unit self-storage facility.
